The top is worked from the neckline down, beginning with two identical pieces. These pieces are then joined together to create the body of the top. Once joined, the body is worked in the round using a simple and easy to memorize stitch repeat. Rows of single crochet alternate with rows of mesh creating a pretty openwork texture while keeping the construction straightforward.

Once the body is complete, a ribbed hem is added for a neat and polished finish. The straps are then crocheted and finished with a delicate picot edge, adding a feminine decorative detail. Picot edging is also worked around the amholes, tying the whole design together and giving this crochet top a lovely finished look.

One of the best things about this crochet mesh top pattern is that it is completely customizable in length. You can make it as a cropped crochet top or continue working more rounds for the body to create a longer, full length version. This makes it a versatile pattern that can be adapted to suit your personal style and wardrobe.

Construction

This crochet mesh top pattern is worked from the neckline down, making the construction simple and easy to customize. You begin by crocheting two identical neckline pieces. These pieces form the starting point of the top and are designed to create a comfortable and flattering fit.

Once the two neckline pieces are complete, they are joined together to form the main body of the crochet top. From this point onwards, the body is worked in rounds, creating a seamless construction. The stitch pattern alternates between simple crochet crochet rows and airy mesh rows, giving the top its lightweight and open design.

One of the great things about this crochet summer top pattern is that you can easily customize the length. Simply continue adding rounds to make the top longer or work fewer rounds for a shorter, more cropped style. This means you decide exactly how much coverage you want and create a crochet cropped top or a longer version to suit your personal style.

When you’re happy with the length of the body the ribbed hem is crocheted to give the bottom of the top a nneat, finished edge. The straps are then added, followed by delicate picot edging around the straps and armholes. These pretty picot details provide the perfect finishing touch and compliment the mesh design beautifully.

Ch 40 for ALL SIZES

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. [39 sts]

Row 2: ch 4 (counts as dc and ch 1), dc in same st, *ch 1, skip 1, dc in the next st, rep from * across until 2 sts rem, ch 1, skip 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) in last st, turn.

Row 3: ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each ch1-sp and dc across. When you reach the end of the row pay careful attention to place a sc between the last dc and the turning ch and then place a sc into the 3rd ch of tch, turn [43 sc]

Row 4: ch 4, dc in same st, *ch 1, skip 1, dc in the next st, rep from * across until 2 sts rem, ch 1, skip 1, (dc, ch 1, dc) in last st, turn.

Rep rows 3-4 until you have a total of 16(16, 16, 20, 20, 20) rows. You will be ending on a mesh row. Fasten off.

Create another panel by following the same directions above but do not fasten off for the second panel.

Connecting the two panels together

To keep things simple we will state the next row as being row 1

Row 1: ch 1, sc across each dc and ch1-sp [71(71, 71, 79, 79, 79) sc], ch 13(23, 33, 35, 47, 55), sc into the first dc on the bottom corner of the first panel you made, sc in each ch1-sp and dc of this panel, ch 13(23, 33, 35, 47, 55), slst to the 1st sc of the other panel to close the round. Turn.

Row 2: ch 4, skip next ch dc into the next, ch 1, skip 1, *dc in the next, ch 1, skip 1, rep from * around. Slst to 3rd ch of the tch to close round. Turn.

Row 3: ch 1, sc in next ch1-sp, sc in every dc and ch1-sp around. Slst to 1st sc to close the round. Turn.

Rep rows 2-3 until you are happy with the length of the top keeping in mind we will be adding approximately 2 inches of ribbing to the hemline. Do not fasten off.

Ribbed hemline

Use smaller hook

Ch 16

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and into the next 14 chains, slst into next 2 sc on body of top, turn.

Row 2: skip the 2 slsts, scblo in next 15 sc, turn.

Row 3: ch 1, scblo in each of the next 15 sts, slst in each of the next 2 sc on the body of the top, turn.

Row 4: skip the 2 slsts, scblo in the next 15 sc, turn.

Rep rows 3-4 all the way around the bottom body of the top. Fasten off leaving a long tail. Using the long tail and a yarn needle, sew the two ends of the ribbing closed with the wrong side facing you.

Edging & Straps.

Using smaller hook

Attach yarn to a dc at the underarm. I like to attach to as much to the centre of the underarm as possible, but you don’t have to be very exact.

Round 1: ch 1, sc in each dc and ch1-sp along the underarm area. Continue up along the side of the top placing 1 sc into the edge of every sc row and 2 sc into the edge of every dc row. Continue all the way up along the top until you reach the top edge of neckline. Do not fasten off.

Ch 40 for the strap. You may need to try the top on at this point to make sure the strap is long enough. You can add or subtract chains here if needed. Keep in mind the strap will slightly stretch over time with wear. Once your strap is long enough sc into the top of the back panel. Continue placing 2sc into the edges of every dc row and 1 sc into the edge of every sc row. When you reach the underarm area, continue with 1 sc into every dc and ch1-sp. Slst to the 1st sc of the round. Do not turn.

Round 2: ch 1, sc into each stitch around, including the 40 chains for the strap. Slst to close the round.

Round 3: ch 1, *picot st in same st, sc in the next, rep from * around. Slst into the first sc to close the round. Fasten off.

Repeat this entire process on the other side.

Next we will do some picot edging across the top edge of the neckline and along the inner edge of each strap.

Begin by attaching your yarn to the front, top right corner of the top.

Round 1: ch 1, *picot stitch in the same st, sc in the next, rep from * across the top edge of the neckline, up along the inner edge of the strap, across the neckline edge on the back, down along the inner edge of the second strap. Slst to the first sc you made to close.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Blocking

Fill a sink with lukewarm water. Submerge the top and allow it to soak for 30 minutes. Gently squeeze out the excess water making sure not to wring or twist it.

Next, roll the top in a clean, dry towl and press gently to remove additional moisture. Lay flat, shape to the finished measurements and allow to completely dry.
